Ever since he began playing piano for his high school music ministry group in Orange County in the late 1970’s, John Gloudeman has been active in music ministry. Before coming to SS Peter & Paul Church, he served as music director and music teacher for 4-1/2 years at Holy Trinity Parish in El Dorado Hills and for 9-1/2 years at Our Lady of Mercy / Saint Patrick’s Parish in Merced. He has been involved in liturgical music as director, composer, accompanist, and cantor including a two-year stint as accompanist to Christopher Walker at St. Paul the Apostle in Westwood from 1990-1992.
His stage credits include two Merced Playhouse productions: Jesus Christ Superstar (Annas) and Nunsense (musical director / accompanist.) He also served as music director for two productions of Godspell. CD credits include piano tracks for Ron Griffen’s live Dare to Dream recording; piano tracks for Spirit Alive’s In His Healing Presence; and singing baritone on Oregon Catholic Press’ recording of Easter Mysteries. Gloudeman also recorded an all-original liturgical CD, We Are Children, with St. Patrick’s Parish in Merced.
John’s original compositions span a variety of age groups and styles, and they have been sung for liturgies and festivals throughout California. In 2008 he was asked to do a workshop/retreat featuring all original music at St. Bonaventure’s Church in Concord and St. Ignatius Church in Antioch. St. Bonaventure’s Church then performed the title track for his CD, “We Are Children,” for the Bay Area Children’s Choir Festival.
In addition to piano, John also plays accordion, guitar, trumpet and recorder. Musical influences include an eclectic mix of Rock and Roll, classical, pop, and jazz, with The Beatles topping the list of favorites.
His hobbies include playing soccer, working puzzles of all kinds, playing sports with his sons Matt, Chris, and Alex; and reading with his daughter Emma. He enjoys cooking for them, especially waffles for breakfast and just about anything out of a Crockpot for dinner. He can still ride a unicycle, but not while playing the accordion.
Film scoring classes at UCLA were a blast, especially the challenge of creating just the right music to match the dramatic moment. Accompanying for dance classes during summer break at college was also a really fun experience.
John has his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and minor in music from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
