Safe Environment Training
Faith Formation / Adult Faith Formation / Lay Formation for Catechists and Lay Ministers / Safe Environment Training
The Diocese of Sacramento requires all staff and adult volunteers (including religious educators, youth ministry coordinators, youth ministry contact persons, catechists and aides) who work with young people (18 years of age or younger) to complete the Shield the Vulnerable Safe Environment Training (Child Abuse Prevention / Diocesan Sexual Misconduct Policy / Code of Conduct), and obtain a criminal record summary (background check) for convictions of sex, drugs / narcotics, and violent crimes through LiveScan for staff and volunteers age 18 and over.
Shield the Vulnerable
The Shield the Vulnerable Safe Environment Training (Child Abuse Prevention / Diocesan Sexual Misconduct Policy / Code of Conduct) is required for all staff and adult volunteers working with the youth of our parish. Shield the Vulnerable is an online course that takes approximately 1 hour to complete. It can be accessed by any computer and can be completed in stages as time permits. If you do not have access to a computer, you may make arrangements to complete this course at the SS. Peter & Paul Faith Formation Office. The training consists of (1) completing the one-hour computer training and (2) signing a form stating that you have received the Diocesan Administrative Policies and Procedures on Sexual Misconduct of the Diocese of Sacramento.
Once your volunteer Registration is confirmed, you will be provided with instructions on how to take the Shield the Vulnerable course online. There is no cost to you for this course.
The Shield the Vulnerable course must be repeated every three (3) years.
LiveScan is required for all staff and volunteers age 18 and over working with the youth of our parish. The background check obtains a criminal record summary for convictions of sex, drugs / narcotics, and violent crimes. Even if you have been previously cleared by any law enforcement agency or school district, you must complete LiveScan for the Diocese of Sacramento.
Once your volunteer Registration is confirmed, you will be contacted about attending an upcoming LiveScan event.
SS. Peter & Paul offers on-site LiveScan events for volunteers by Liturgical Ministry or Faith Formation Grade. Current and upcoming LiveScan events appear in the Calendar. There is no cost to you for this service. You must bring photo identification to the LiveScan event.
Once you have have received LiveScan services for the Diocese of Sacramento you will not need to repeat this process.
